Autonomous cars

By: Jacquelynne Rattler-Simmons

The world is changing everyday and so is technology. I have been doing research on emerging technologies and the big thing that keeps coming up are autonomous cars. The autonomous car is a self-driving car and is already on the road in some places. Studies are saying that all cars will be self-driving by the year 2050. This new technology will also raise the sticker price on cars from around $7,000 and $10,000 in 2025 but will drop to $3,000 and $5,000 between 2030 and 2035 once no driver controls are available. As this technology improves over time it will be more beneficial.

I don't really know how I feel about them though. It is a great idea, but I just don't think they are safe. Sure your car could be driving lyft or uber for you while you're asleep or working as we discussed in class, but what happens if there is an accident? I believe that this will be our reality in the future and will be the only way to go and by then all the kinks will be worked out. So, if we are not ready for this now, we better get ready.

  1. This is a very interesting blog. Personally, I am a little nervous for self driving cars simply because I feel we have to put our whole life in the hands of a computer to get us to our destination safely. There are a lot of benefits that is going to come with the self driving car but what happens if there is a glitch in the system which could cause an accident including the cars around me, throwing their system off of track. I feel they are focused on all of the pros and not the cons.

  2. There will surely be benefits from driverless cars but do the positives truly outweigh the negatives of safety uncertainty and the effect this would have on the auto industry. I absolutely agreed with you when you said "So, if we are not ready for this now, we better get ready." I personally believe that Tesla will be the first company to effectively use this technology.

  3. This is an informative post. We are ready for autonomous cars but not fully autonomous cars. We have to be careful how we introduce these cars to the public. Also we need to make sure we fully work out the kinks so it's fully functional for everyone capable of using it.

  4. I believe this post is very informative on what and how the future will be with autonomous cars. Of course, like any new products, it will have to be a trial and error period before the industry of autonomous cars becomes solidified.

  5. I think autonomous cars can be a good and bad thing. The good is that it could eventually cut down on car accidents and cars will eventually become cheaper. The downside is that its one more industry that we our being pushed out of. There are thousands of people who make there living from driving cars. Whether its truck drivers or lyft employees. Im just curious how this technology will affect working class people.

  6. I believe autonomous cars would be a huge impact around the world, but I'm not sure whether that impact will be good or bad. It's great to have that option of not having to drive, but I just need more justification from the inventors on the benefits. I am concerned about the actual safety of the vehicle. I understand that they are conducting various test runs, but there may still be possible glitches that arise once they are debuted. I also wonder if it would be possible for someone to steal an autonomous car. I look forward to seeing more information about the autonomous cars and what they can really do for us than make people lazier.

  7. Although autonomous car, are seen as the ultimate automaker's goal. It concerns me what will happen to our economy after autonomous cars. It will ruin industries, small business and the lives of some people. It's a very cool idea, however, will bring great change to the world. -Kyaris Wade

  8. This is an interesting topic because before we know it their will be fully autonomous cars being distributed all around the world, I'm personally not an big fan nor am I interested in having a car fully operate itself. I like how there's already some cars out that park themselves but that's it for me, I wouldn't want to be in a car I have no control over fully. It's kind of a scary thought.

  9. This is well crafted detailed response on the topic of autonomous cars. I clearly understand the cars full potential and what's the purpose behind the invention. I am definitely supposed at how advanced technology has become today , I would love to try one out. However I would be very hestitant to use one on an everyday basis for personal use. Putting my whole life in the hands of technology can be scary what happens with malfunctions ? Over all great blog!

  10. This autonomous cars idea can be good and bad. My only thing about the autonomous cars is that they need to safely tested before everyone jumps on-board with this new idea.

  11. We better get ready is right because technology is taking over. Autonomous cars seem unrealistic to me and I wouldn't trust a car that I have no control over with my safety. I would have to wait a few years after they release autonomous cars to see reviews and what not. After autonomous cars they will be able to fly in a minute.
